April, Spring, Summer and Wednesdays
This APRIL we introducted our new Afternoon Tea menu. Scrumptious pastries, sandwiches and scones with Guernsey cream are available in the cosy lounge, the restaurant or in the gardens overlooking the pool.
Interesting Fact Time - The origins of afternoon tea can be traced back to the early 1800s (no, not just past six o'clock!), a period when dinner was taken late in the evening, and Anna Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, annoyed by hunger pangs caused by only having two meals a day, the Duchess scheduled time to take tea and enjoy a snack in the afternoon.
It was probably a good thing that Tea arrived in the UK because until the 1700s Gin was the nations favourite tipple. Incidentally, we have a selection of Guernsey distilled craft gins too if you're a little more old school!

Yes SPRING has sprung and I know this to be so because we have already spotted many Old Barbarians enjoying the blue skies and the majestic cliffs on our doorstep.
Really good to see so many serial Old B’s like Mr Smith (he likes a drop of VSOP you know), Mr and Mrs Putnam (my plumbers mate), Mr and Mrs Jones (thanks for the Chocs,) Dr and Mrs Brown (my phone volume is high!) the rather Elegant Mrs Gettings and many other regulars who have already made our early season special.

Congratulations to Head Chef Colin and the kitchen team for being awarded The AA Rosette Award for the 20th consecutive year (AA Rosette, a mark awarded to fine restaurants by the British Automobile Association).
Also the Official Visit Guernsey Gold Award for both La Barbarie Restaurant and Bar Food since its inception 6 years ago.
So with that kind of consistency we thought it might be a good time to remind you of our SUMMER Gourmet Breaks. |

Things that make us go ah!
My thanks to little Charlotte Eker who, with her mum and family, had a La Barbarie staycation. She left us this wonderful note which made us very happy too. read here »

At La Barbarie we don’t like to keep the status quo so I was delighted when only just last WEDNESDAY, (at about 10.47 a.m. I'd say) I received some exciting plans for our restaurant and bar refurbishment.
Our intentions to revamp the pool area are also on course and with the new Bar planning approved we are hoping to have these major improvements both completed by the 2019 season.

After many years of using the quill and ink and trusty pens we were finally persuaded to join the computer age and install a fully integrated EPOS system which prints all food orders in the kitchen. (Not quite sure why this is necessary I see restaurant staff going in and out of there all the time. Surely they can carry a bit of paper!).
The younger "Appy" staff love it, Ivo, Raivis and that Andy bloke are still busy trying to discover where to put the coal in.
