La Barbarie Latest Signing in
Transfer Shocker |
 |
It’s not every day that La Barbarie Hotel makes it on to the BBC Sport website, but that’s what happened when Guernsey FC picked our own new signing Guille Fernandez to play for them.
Guille joined us in the Summer to come and work in our Restaurant and he was soon showing his soccer skills, (no not in the Restaurant), to the local coaches. Seems Guille might be a bit of a player (reminds yours truly of his youth).
Never one to miss a marketing opportunity we thought this little advert in the home game programs would be appropriate.
Should you wish to hire Mr Fernandez for private functions
please contact Mr 10% (AKA. A. Coleman).

We have been delighted to welcome back many Old Barbarians this year and we thank you for your loyalty to La Barbarie Hotel.

Phase one of the three phase project of poolside work and improvement, the new wall by the pool has been completed and it seems from the feedback that you approve.

This Winter will see the conversions of the final 2 bed apartments to more new Superior rooms.
On 2nd November our builders, Ivo and Raivis (no they don’t believe me either), will surrender their corkscrews and be handed shiny new sledgehammers and hard hats. |
 |
Our room refurbishment programme continues as we invest further in more Standard room upgrades with two ground floor rooms (20 and 21) and two first floor rooms (4 and 8) being totally refurbished this Winter. Facilities will include new walk-in shower wet rooms.

Silver Anniversary or 25 Shades of Grey - Our very First Barb Wire |
 |
March 7th 1991 is quite a long time ago which funnily enough, is the day Andrew Coleman started working at La Barbarie.
In this short/long (you decide) time, the hotel has become the proud daddy of a swimming pool, gained an award winning restaurant, given birth to 3 stars, run off with an AA Rosette, Visit Guernsey Gold Award, a Restaurant of the Year Award and has grown from a 15 bedroom hotel with a 73% Quality Rating to a 35 bedroomed Hotel with a 90% Quality Rating.
A word with Mr. Coleman’s coiffeur will quickly confirm that a few grey hairs have made a guest appearance, though his personal beautician informs us that it really is a natural glow and not make up. (Maybe that’s why he married her).
So March 7th 2016 will mean Le Grand Fromage, will have been opening cans of smiles and welcoming Old Barbarians for 25 years. Together with long serving (or should that be suffering) staff like Ivo, Raivis, Colin, Sally and Paul but not forgetting those that have been and gone (escaped) like Jean, Jerry, Ilze, Janis, Piadade, Stuart and too many to mention, we just wanted to say
”Blimey doesn't time fly when you’re working!!!”
To celebrate this gold watch event there will be no dishing out of expensive timepieces, but if you just happen to be in the bar on Monday 7th of March 2016 you'll be there exactly 25 years after it all started!

Caption Competition |
 |
Talking of Old Barbarians who remembers the Roy Duff Column? Nah!, nor do I but here’s a blast from the past. We used the above picture of Rebecca Duff and her Ugly Sisters for a caption competition in our Barb Wire of 2007 (surely you kept copies?).
So eight years on we thought this picture of Rebecca in 2015, with two rather attractive minders, would be perfect for our Caption competition. Be advised - “He’s behind you” a' la panto is not a likely winning option.
Actually Old Barbarians can now view our Newsletters Archive here >
See Issue: 13 for more on Roy and Rebecca.

The Prize:- Two nights B+B for Two here at La Barbarie plus Half Bottle of Taittinger. The judge's (yours truly) decision is final and the winner will be notified by email before 30 April 2016. Please send entries here: andy@labarbariehotel.com

Web Site Story |
 |
So, I know this chap who used to be a fine award winning hotelier and then gave it all up to follow his dream, no not me, I have some strange dreams and I don’t really want to be the ship's cook on the Mars mission!
Anyway my friend the ex Bon Viveur decided to get with it in the digital age and taught himself "stuff".
And hey presto! after many hours of Bazilmania we now have a brand new shiny, and here’s the key word, “responsive” web site. So all you upwardly, downwardly static mobile people, not forgetting the tablet takers, can now view our website in its full glory and book online on what ever device, wherever you are!
A BIG thanks to Mike who has been looking after La Barbarie Hotel’s digital presence since the year dot (com). |
